East Guildford PCN Paediatric Hub goes full time
East Guildford PCN have launched a Paediatric hub focusing on children aged 16 and under.
The hub has been designed to create more capacity to reduce the need for practices to signpost to NHS 111 or local walk-in centres, and instead be able to assist at the patient’s local practice instead.
The clinics are almost entirely staffed by Advanced Nurse Practitioners with occasional GP cover and clinical oversight. This is an acute on the day service for short term illness.
Clinicians are impressed with the new initiative and have said they are very pleased young people can be seen so quickly at their local practice, without the need of them having to travel elsewhere.
Parents of children have also provided positive feedback, now that they can get an appointment on the day for their child, with the added bonus of their child being seen in a paediatric clinic and attended to by a prescriber.
The Paediatric Hub has seen lots of positive feedback and is proving to be a very effective initiative to help ease the pressures GP practices, NHS 111 and walk in centres face.
